I build websites and mobile apps. Off the keyboard I ride motorcycles, play football, fumble through a few guitar chords, and I'm a cat dad. SnapSpend is the app I wanted for myself: automatic expense tracking that never sends my receipts anywhere.
Every decision in SnapSpend traces back to one of these. If a feature can't respect all four, it doesn't ship.
I only say and promise what I actually do. If something isn't ready, I'll tell you it isn't ready — not dress it up.
How it works, what data it learned from, where things stand — written down and public. No black boxes dressed as magic.
It should run well on the phone you already own — Android or iOS, mid-range or old — not just this year's flagship.
A real person reads every message. You won't be left on read — even if you're the last user.
SnapSpend runs on-device AI that I fine-tuned specifically for receipts. I trained and evaluated it on thousands of real Thai and English receipts — crumpled, faded, mixed-language, the messy ones — so it holds up outside a lab.
On purpose, I don't publish the names of the underlying models or runtimes. They change as better options ship, and the brand name isn't the promise. The promise is the guarantee that doesn't change: every version runs on your phone, and nothing is uploaded.
The network is only ever touched for optional update checks and App Store / Google Play purchases — never for your receipts, amounts or photos.
On-device AI only earns its keep if it's efficient, so I tuned SnapSpend to work beyond flagship phones. Here's the honest floor — and what I recommend for a smooth experience.
Older or low-RAM phones can install and use manual entry, summaries and search; the AI scan & chat run best at 4 GB RAM and up.
Tired of losing track of spending, and unwilling to hand my receipts to a cloud service, I started prototyping.
Tested several on-device approaches and model sizes, chasing extraction quality that stays fast — and never leaves the phone.
Fine-tuned specifically for Thai and mixed Thai/English receipts — the ones generic scanners fumble.
Added AI chat over your own data — ask about your spending in plain language, fully on-device.
SnapSpend is on the App Store and Google Play — and where it goes next is partly up to you.
